Top Commentators Plugin: A Race to the Top
I have been doing some observing lately and I have noticed something interesting. I have noticed that blogs with the top commentators plugin on it get tons of comments to their blogs at the beginning of the month.
Blog Commenting for a purpose
What is the reason for all these comments?
1. On most blogs with this plugin installed, the comments reset when it becomes a new month. This is beneficial for a person who just started commenting on the blog at the end of the month because when it becomes a new month, they will have a chance to become one of the top commentators.
2. A lot of bloggers like to run contest for whoever ends up on the top commentators list by the end of the month. An example of this can be seen at Dennis Edell’s blog Direct Sales Web Marketing. This is a great way to get your website visitors involved in discussion by promoting some incentive to your readers. If you offer quality prizes, you will see a definite increase in blog comments and also gain some new RSS subscribers. 3. Some people may not know this one. If your name is on the top commentators plugin on someone’s blog by the end of the month, you gain one technorati authority point only if you have not received a link from this site before. This is a huge benefit because the higher your technorati authority is, the better your technorati ranking will be.
4. Another benefit for being on the top commentators list is getting extra exposure and traffic coming into your site. I would probably say 6 out of every 10 people who visit a site and see the top commentators on the list, either remember that persons name or visit their site through the link. This is very powerful especially if you can get on more than one bloggers list. You will be seen as a very active participant and you might even gain more subscribers to you blog because of it.
If you currently don’t have this plugin installed on your blog, I would advise you to install, as you will most likely see your blog readers increase.

I dint even know some reset monthly, am usually use to the number of comment own, i think that is the best. The more of your participation in the discussion the more the benfit you derive.
Being in Top Commentators list always brings in a lot of rewards among others you will be getting to become an active part of the blogs community, at thesame time you will bring in traffic to your blog.

I have a lot of visitors but for some reason..it is so hard to get them to comment…I have though about adding the top commenter pluggin..thanks for the info

Top Commentator is a very useful plugin for both blog owners and commentators. I think each of us view this differently. There is no denial of SEO value or a potential traffic to the site, but I think is a self realization as well. It is a kind of recognition that the commentator gets by seeing his or her name in the list. It is one of the best tools that encourage commenting.

I used to see on some of the blogs, which have top commentors list, contests eaven with prices (maybe this is an idea to make ppl comment.. dont know it never try it), but also i think this plugin can easily attract lot of spammers, why is that, you ask ? Beeing on the list is much easier to do some advertising to your own blog…and beside technorati rankin, will get higher.
I am not convinced that this is a very solution.

Top Commentator plugin definitely will encourage a lot more comments on your blog, I think it is a great way to encourage people to comment ( and comment often ).

Top Commentator definatly improves the number of comments on a blog. Infact because of this I’ve installed it on my blog as well today. If you can get on the Top Commentators list on a high established blog then you can get a lot of traffic.

Top commentator plugin is really effective in increasing comments in a blog especially if you make the links dofollow. There are also other plugins that can help in increasing comments but so far, this is the best.

I would like to install this plugin on my blog, but I already get so much spam it isnt even funny…what is the best way to eliminate all the incoming spam comments?

I have it installed on my sites and you will get a lot of spam, but it is filtered and I have to approve all my submissions first. I state right on my blog that you must leave a comment that is more that just “cool site” or I will delete it. It filters all the spam out, so all I have to do is hit delete. I highly recommend it.

I am going to install it as it seems very beneficial. Comments should be very relevant to the post and that is the best way to leave the impression for your site too. Its not a way to leave comments as you are just promoting or advertising something.

The plugin is really useful to build links. I suggest everyone having a wordpress blog to install it. It will help get more visitors to comment and in return get a backlink.

Top commentator is a beneficial for both the reader and blogger. the reader gets rewarded for commenting and the blogger gets more comments on his blog and increases his reader. Its a win win situation.
