The Propriety of Link Building

by donny on October 20, 2009

This guest post was written by Armen Shirvanian of Timeless Information, a site focused on providing substantive information about mindset development and social interaction.

Business cards are shared at a networking function. Flyers are passed out by a door-to-door method in a neighborhood. The process of building links to your site is equally as relevant, and has as much merit.

There is more to link building than just being a point-blank advertising campaign. It is a focused effort at letting a specific group of individuals know about that which you are providing. It can fast-forward the building of your future audience, as you are facilitating the spreading of your content through various Internet channels. It can also get your site further down the exponential growth curve.

A site sends the right message when links are built toward it. The linkage shows determination in the attitude of the promoter, and that in turn is a positive sign about the content provided by the site, as the diligent promoter will also put that beneficial character trait towards providing structured value and product.

Another vital point that link building shows to the public is the intended long-term presence of a site. A site-owner would only build an array of links to his site if he planned to be there for an extended period of time, in order to be there to warmly receive the new visitors. If this were not the case, he would spend his time on something else. This is the type of site that is worth subscribing to without worry of it being abandoned in the near future.

Finally, link building shows an interest in the material the site is providing. Someone tends to only build links to their site if its topics match up with their interests. It is pretty taxing on the mind to build links to a site you just want to make ad revenue from. Passion for a site has to be present for someone to be motivated enough to spread it, and that passion will show in the site’s presentation.

The links you create can say quite a bit about the kind of site you represent, based on the types of sites that are linking to you. If someone put together a set of the many web pages that linked to your site, they would likely start to see a theme of the kind of content you represent, by merging the content of the links seen into a general subject of focus. You can affect the image your site has by building links on sites that you would want to have linking back to you. This can assist in the package view that your website has in the public eye.

A resource like LinkersBlog is one worth consulting when your interest in pro-active networking arises. The information here will lead you towards positive link building, and it will connect you with the advice of other top link-builders, like in the interview that was done with Collin LaHay last week. Supplementing your site’s growth, by building inbound links, will help get people to your site for the content they are looking for, in the same way that passing around your business card would lead potential customers to your place of occupation.

I agree that link building is important for seo purposes but it is also important to note that it is used for letting other people know about your site. I notice in my blog that some people click links from my commentators.

Link building can be time consuming. I add all my favorite blogs to an rss feed and comment on about 15 of them daily. It worked very well for my first site.

As far as I know, the best backlink to build is the Text links. Based from the blogs that I read, they prefer having text links because it is more SEO friendly rather than having banners or so.
