Link Building Expert
My name is Collin LaHay, and much like you, I am quite a few years ahead of the curve in regards to age. I am 19 years old and have made my living completely online since the start of this year. I am an Internet marketer at heart, and I blog at CollinLaHay.com. My blog is most known for my link building cookbook, which is dubbed as a “do it yourself link building campaign,” and has gained a lot of popularity on webmaster forums because it is completely free unlike most eBooks those readers are use to purchasing.
How did you start learning about link building?
I started learning about link building by accident. I started my first site back in high school and it spread by word of mouth. After I realized there was a lot of money to be made online, I started moving towards ways to build traffic and the search engines seemed like the best bet. I read around on the digitalpoint.com forums and learned from there.
Who or what did you learn from?
http://forums.digitalpoint.com, as well as self-teaching myself by trial and error.
What is your most effective link building tactic?
There is no “one good method,” it is a combination of dozens of effective link building strategies over a long period of time.
What is the best way to get one-way links from high page rank sites?
Offer something of value that they will want to link to.
What is the most common mistake you see people making in their link building activities?
I see a lot of people either give up because a lot of link building is repetitive and boring, or people see an update in page rank that they like to see and they think they can stop building links, which is a huge fallacy. Link building is a never-ending process as long as you want to rank organically forever in competitive niches.
What is your opinion of reciprocal links? Effective or not?
I have heard a lot of people argue both sides, but I do not have any case studies myself. I very seldom do link exchanges with my websites.
What percentage of traffic do you get from back links?
If you mean the traffic from people clicking my links, then less than 30%. If you are including the organic rankings that these back links provide, then well over 75%.
Do you use trackbacks to get links?
My wordpress blog (collinlahay.com) sends trackbacks to blog posts I link to like any other blog, but I do not specifically send out trackbacks.
Do you pass link value to a competitor if you link out to their website?
Yeah.
What are the three most important things a search engine robot might consider when evaluating an inbound link?
Relevancy – How related is it to your website/niche? Age – How long has the link been there? How old is the website linking to you? Page strength – Commonly confused with pagerank, however a very strong PR0 page that hasn’t reached a pagerank update yet can be just as good… however pagerank is a quick way to tell if a page is pretty strong or not.
What is your blog about and what do you discuss on your blog?
My blog is located at CollinLaHay.com and I discuss many different link building strategies. I started my blog because all of the link building blog’s that existed before my blog started merely discussed “link theory” and I wanted to go ten steps further than these blogs by actually providing readers the locations of places to build the links themselves that moment. My blog has been dubbed a “DIY (do it yourself) link building blog,” and I would agree with that. My blog has exploded in popularity mainly from my Link Building Cookbook which is a series that has dozens of link building techniques that you can easily build yourself hundreds of powerful links without having to worry about finding places to add to your link building campaign as I did that for you.

Yeah the best way to gain one way link is to creat a useful site that attract links naturally,
other factors involved in building links also includes the relevance of the page it is linking to, number of outbound links and anchor text.

Well, from are point of view there are alot of ways to build links, the process that works for you. The reason why i say this ,some people think more is better and some think quality is better as more info comes out of the big G them we all run and listen then work that angle. so as the shoe fits we wear it.

Funny to read this, because I came to a lot of his same conclusions on my own a while back. I’m not saying I’m bragging, I’m just saying that I agree with his strategy, and I especially like what he said about how people give up link building because it is either repetitive, or they get to a point where they feel satisfied. Its an ongoing process.
