They like to maintain the most amount of link juice as possible on their website. Even though it adds tremendous value in regards to their onsite optimization, they are missing out on all of the quality backlinks that they could be gaining from those other sites. 9 times out of 10 if you include a link from another post from a different blog, they will accept that trackback or ping and once they do, you will automatically receive a free backlink to your website.
