Google Search Techniques For Quick and Accurate Searching

by donny on November 30, 2009

One quality of an SEO specialist is being an internet savvy or in layman’s term internet addict. This quality is essential because it makes researching easy and accurate specially when navigating through search engines.

And of course, an SEO should have some techniques to navigate the World Wide Web. There are some search engine “operators” that will back you up in case you’re “lost” in the cyberspace and don’t know where to start.

You can actually narrow your searching by using these operators:

The ‘site:’ operator shows the site pages indexed by Google.
ex: site:linkersblog.com

The ‘link:’ operator shows all links from specified site.
ex: link:linkersblog.com

The ‘inurl:’ operator shows specific word or parameter that should be included in the url.
ex: inurl:/ link

The ‘intitle:’ operator shows specific word or words that should be included in the title:
ex: intitle:blog

The ‘intext:’ operator shows specific word or words that should be included in the content of a site.
ex: intext:linkbuilding

You can combine these operators in the search bar for specific results.
ex: inurl:/ link intitle:blog intext:linkbuilding

And you can also exclude some unwanted words by using the minus sign (-).
ex: inurl:/ link intitle:blog -intext:linkbuilding

There you have it and there’s more out there. Try to experiment with these operators for quick and accurate searching.

This is an interesting topic. It’s always painful to watch people who don’t understand google try to search for something. This takes it a step further and shows everyone a few tricks.

I know this is SEO based but don’t forget the cool calculator and conversion tools.

I’ve never usd ‘intext’ before.
You can also use “site:domain ‘keyword’” to search for a specific keyword within a website.
