October Case Study: Blog Commenting
Quite a large proportion of my posts this month have been based around blog commenting, this has probably left alot of you wondering if blog commenting is really that powerful at gaining links and traffic. Alot of you have also been eagerly anticipating the case studies that I promised. So I have decided the best thing to do is to kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
What’s The Plan?
Well earlier while you were all sleeping I was working hard putting together a list of blogs within a similar niche to this one, altogether there is around 60 different blogs, some with a high pagerank, some with no pagerank at all, the only similarity is the niche.
Over the next 30 days I will be actively commenting on these blogs whenever possible, I will not be commenting just for commenting sake, but I will be expressing my opinion on certain posts a lot more instead of keeping my thoughts to myself.
After 30 days I will right a full report of the ups and downs of blog commenting, including traffic and link benefits.
But What About This Blog?
Do not fear, my commitment to this blog will be equally strong if not stronger than last months, I will continue to craft posts you love and enjoy, I will continue to respond to your comments and questions and I will continue to help you with all your link building needs.
How Will You Measure Results?
Blog commenting is a process that can yield all different results, big and small. It could be something as little as one person clicking through, or something as big as the blogger contacting you for a joint venture. For this case study I am going to need a few measurable metrics, so here are the ones I have chosen:
- Traffic From Referals - All things being equal blog commenting should increase my traffic from other websites.
- Backlinks - All blogs are different, but some have dofollow comments, top commentators plugin, commentluv, ect. So I should see an increase in backlinks.
- Technorati Ranking - Similar to the above point, if I’m gaining backlinks I should be gaining some authority on technorati, some people may also become my fan too.
- Comments On My Blog - The whole point of networking is that by commenting on blogs they should want to return the favour and leave a comment over here, so hopefully we should see an increase on average.
Is There Anyway I Can Help
There are many ways you can help, but the easiest for you is to just show me you’re reading this blog, my main inspiration for blogging is you, the reader, so the best way to help is continue reading! To show your further commitment there are a few things you could do.
- Subscribe to RSS - Whether it be via a feedreader, or email its good to know your keeping up to date.
- Comment! - If you’ve never commented before then I would love to hear your opinion, if you have commented before I’m keen to continue the conversation
- Become a Fan on Technorati - Everyone loves fans, why don’t you become a fan of LinkersBlog? I’ll even return the favour

Clog Moneys last blog post..Income Report
Your blog doesn’t even need to be on the list, I just simply love it. The simplicity is the edge that alot of other blogs are missing. Also your determination to post everyday is awesome.
Blog commenting is definitely a great strategy for building traffic and links. It can also be an effective way of networking and making contacts. Good luck with your case study…I’m looking forward to seeing the results.
Mike Collinss last blog post..Comment Policy
Thank you for the support Mike, its good to see readers coming out of the woodwork and commenting, its helped me find your blog and I really like it.
It seems we have pretty much the same plan - although I have a list of around 80 blogs (popular and non-popular).
This is because I too know the power of commenting - last month alone I received something like 750 UV from blog referrals (comments)
Good luck, and wish me luck - maybe we can compare results
That’s something I’ll definitely be interested in Otooo. I’ll probably been commenting on hundreds of blogs over the next month, but I have the 60 there as a minimum.
Blog commenting is such a really effective way to boost your traffic and stat. Anyway, let’s see how will it respond to you. You got a nice design by the way. I want to kill the designer

Salwas last blog post..Who uses twitter?!
Excellent experiment - I shall be following your progress with great interest. I’m seeing my own blog comments in dofollow blogs appearing in Google webmaster tool external links and backlink checkers but have no real idea of the juice they are bringing - good luck
As I like to say, any link is a good link, if its showing up in your webmaster tools then thats a good sign.
Good luck and I can’t wait to see some figures on this. I am trying my best to get myself known around the niche and even outside of the niche by commenting on many blogs daily.
I have subscribed to your blog today so I look forward to seeing what you have to say.

Thanks for signing up, I think you are definitely going the right way about getting yourself known, another good way is to add bloggers on micro-blogging websites such as twitter.
Good stuff, Danny.
I am a first time visitor. Ironically, I found your site through one of your comments. LOL! That is great and it is impressive getting a PR3 so fast, so I was obviously interested.
I signed up by RSS and didn’t get the Link Building for Beginners, so I signed up by email. I hope it is in my email box already. I haven’t checked.
Anyway, I am looking forward to your findings and those metrics are awesome.
Peace

How’s it going so far Danny? Are you keeping track of how many comments you’re making?
Mike Collinss last blog post..Case Study - A Review Style Site In Action
I’m not gonna keep track of comments, mainly because this isn’t about the numbers, its about the community
Commenting is a HUGE part of my arsenal….links, readership, and most importantly, the relationships that I’ve formed because of it.
Dennis Edells last blog post..Coming Soon? Yes They Are I Swear - I Need Your Advice First!

koujis last blog post..haiku poem: nature (sand)
Commenting is the single most effective way I have been able to network with people. It takes a while to build up, but eventually you start getting people that recognize your name! That’s why it’s good to use your name, or alias instead of a keyword stuffed phrase when commenting!
I look forward to seeing what you learn, and I better see your mugg over at my blog u sum bee! Or I’ll have to start throwin sammiches around and causing all kinds of ruckus.

Sadies last blog post..-Eyes Wide Shut
You’re very welcome Sadie, its great to here such a good response from the readers.
Although this technique can be applied to all niches it must be said that some aren’t so rewarding, such as commercial topics.
Will be watching this with interest. Its a great idea.
Will you be keeping stats on your case study? e.g. the number of blogs you submit to per day or the nuber of times you submit to blogs with defferent PR? Thanks and good luck!
I won’t be keeping count of the number of things I do, just the stat increases.
Great idea, I’m very excited to see how this turns out. Commenting to get traffic is a touchy area, as many think it doesn’t work as well as it is championed. At any rate, this should clear the air

Hey The Net Fool,
It’s nice to see you come out of the woodwork and comment
The results are pretty good so far, and I can’t wait to release the actual statistics.
I have always praised the power of commenting. It is such an under estimated aspect of blogging. It can bring so many benefits to a blog.
I will be back to keep up to date with your case study.
I love the blog btw.
Mike
Thanks for the kind comments Mike, if you are looking to come back why not subscribe to RSS so you get instantly updated?
I found your blog through Viking Blogger.
I am quite curious to see your results from the commenting experiment. I gave up on commenting a while ago. Too much reading and then information overload caused me to give up. Of course now I am back in full force (as seen by this comment).
Once I heard about your experiment I was saddened that you had not stopped by my blog to comment. I guess I haven’t been hanging out in the blog world enough…Proof again that commenting is super important.
(ps not sure if you realized but you have 2 ’subscribe to comments’ button here)

This is a great idea. I look forward to seeing the results. Guess maybe I need to start commenting more in my own niche. Surprised to see Writer Dad as a top commenter here. He isn’t part of this niche. Do you read his stuff? Just curious.
